Paul was shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The image is from the series, entitled Toy Soldiers, that Paul made in California where he had the opportunity to photograph US Army reserves. As the poses and stances of the American soldiers indicate the idea for the project was derived from the many hours he and his friends spent as children playing with small plastic soldier figures.
