An Introduction To 10" x 8" Large Format Photography *CALL TO BOOK*

This two day luxury one person only workshop is designed to give those who have never experienced working with a 10x8 large format camera the opportunity to have a hands on experience and to learn about the techniques and processes required to get started. You will be provided with a backpack, camera, a lens, a tripod, Black & White film and everything else that is needed to make 10x8 images in the field.

 

Day 1 | Morning

Participants will arrive at Paul’s studio in Forest Hill, South London between 8.30am and 9am. After some tea and you will be presented with your Wilderness 10x8 camera package. The morning will be spent learning about camera movements, film loading, exposure techniques and general large format photography practices.

 

Lunch will be provided at Paul’s studio.

 

Day 1 | Afternoon

The afternoon will be spent at a nearby location putting everything that was learned during the morning session into practice. You will get the opportunity to shoot some black & white film under instruction from Paul using ayour Wilderness 10x8 camera. Once you are happy with your exposures we will head back to the studio where you will learn how to offload the film and box it up, mark it and get it ready for processing. We will discuss the various ways to process your film and where you can have processing done professionally.

 

 Your film will be processed overnight.

 

Day 2 | Morning

After perusing your film you will then learn how to scan using the famous Heidelberg Tango Drum Scanner.  You will then load your files into photoshop and Paul will give you tips and suggestions on achieving good quality digital images from your negatives including histograms and layering.

 

Lunch will be provided at Paul’s studio.

 

Day 2 | Afternoon

The afternoon will be spent making your files print ready. You will then learn about print profiles and monitor calibration and you will get the chance to output your files as archival prints onto the wonderful Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper ready to be framed.
